Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F Kennedy Jr opened up about his past drug use and recovery during a podcast interview with comedian Theo Von on “This Past Weekend w/Theo Von” Thursday. Kennedy, who has been in recovery for over 40 years, shared personal stories about his early struggles and the routines he follows to maintain sobriety.
During the podcast, Kennedy said, “We’ve been in recovery together for years,” referring to how he and Von first met at early-morning recovery meetings before the COVID-19 pandemic. He explained how he even formed a “pirate” group that continued to meet during the pandemic to stay on track.
“I said this when we came in and I said ‘I don’t care what happens, I’m going to a meeting every day,’” Kennedy said. “I’m not scared of a germ, I used to snort cocaine off of toilet seats. I know this disease will kill me. If I don’t treat it, which for me means going to meetings every day, it’s just bad for my life,” he added.
