Washington DC:US PresidentDonald Trumpis sending special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner to Pakistan to hold peace talks with Iran, reported CNN. Notably, the second round of US-Iran peace talks are likely to be held over the weekend in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad. The White House also confirmed the news.
"Witkoff and Kushner will be off to Pakistan again tomorrow morning to engage in direct talks with representatives of the Iranian delegation," the White House said in a statement. The US also claimed that Iranians reached out and asked for this conversation. US President JD Vance, who took part in the first round of talks, will not be travelling to Pakistan this time.
Iran has also not confirmed its participation in the second round of peace talks with the US. Notably, Tehran has set the condition of lifting the US naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway accounting for 20 per cent of the world's crude oil and liquified natural gas (LNG) trade.
Earlier in the day, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Agharchi also confirmed his visit to Pakistan, along with two other nations - Oman and Russia. However, he did not mention about the peace talks in his X post.

"Embarking on timely tour of Islamabad, Muscat, and Moscow. Purpose of my visits is to closely coordinate with our partners on bilateral matters and consult on regional developments. Our neighbors are our priority," Agharchi said in the X post.
Meanwhile, reports also surfaced that Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, head of Iran’s negotiating team with the United States, had stepped down due to internal disagreements. In the absence of Ghalibaf, Agharchi is expected to lead the talks.
The reports about the second round of talks between the US and Iran started surfacing after Trump extended the ceasefire indefinitely. However, the US has not lifted the naval blockade in the strait. Trump had even claimed that due to the blockade Iran was losing USD500 million dollar daily. Earlier on Friday, Meanwhile, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said that a second aircraft carrier would join the blockade in just a few days.
