Inquiry involving Dr Sit Sou-chi, who is accused of medical blunder that left boy permanently disabled, was terminated by council last year
Hong Kong’s Medical Council resumed a disciplinary inquiry on Friday over a suspected medical blunder that left a boy permanently disabled after its decision to terminate the hearing sparked a public outcry.
Dr Sit Sou-chi was accused of failing to carry out all necessary and immediate investigations on newborn Li Yuanjian, the son of a mainland Chinese couple, after the infant had a seizure on December 22, 2009.
On Friday, Sit’s counsel grilled nurse Ho Kit-ha,who was on duty that night, as well as a doctor who served as an expert witness.
The two, along with Hui Shuk-kuen, were the witnesses from the Medical Council’s side testifying during the hearing that lasted for more than eight hours.
Parents Li Zhijian and Peng Hongying also attended the hearing.
“I just hope there will be a judgment on Sunday,” Li told the media after the hearing adjourned. “I don’t want to delay this matter any longer.”
