Glaire Gochna, an Advanced Placement drawing student, received an Award of Excellence at the Go Ape! Advanced Placement Exhibition for her work, “My Fallen Mask,” an acrylic on canvas.

Gochna, a student at North Shore High School, was among eight of 86 participants nationwide recognized with the honor at the exhibition, held at the Art League of Long Island.

Gochna studies under art teacher Margaret DeLima.

“I want to recognize the wonderful news that Glaire Gochna received the Award of Excellence from the jurors of the Advanced Placement Art Exhibit,” said Dalia Rodriguez. “Being one of only eight students out of 86 across the county to receive this recognition is truly a remarkable accomplishment and speaks to both Glaire’s dedication and the thoughtful guidance, devotion and mentorship of North Shore High School art teacher Margaret DeLima.”

She added, “Your care for your students and your commitment to nurturing their artistic growth is deeply appreciated. Achievements like this highlight the extraordinary work happening in our visual arts classrooms and the creativity, skill and voice our students are able to develop under their teacher’s guidance.”

The Go Ape! exhibition is an annual juried show featuring two- and three-dimensional artwork from high school Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate students across Nassau and Suffolk counties. The 2026 exhibit was held March 7–21 at the Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery in Dix Hills and included paintings, sculptures, photography and digital art. Works are selected by teachers and judged by a professional juror.

North Shore High School Principal Eric Contreras praised both student and teacher.

“We are all beyond grateful for the many ways Ms. DeLima nurtures artistic talent that brings out our students’ creativity, brilliance and humanity in the most beautiful and expressive artistic forms,” Contreras said. “Great art begins with great art mentorship. Thank you for what you do, and congratulations to you and Glaire Gochna.”
