Six seniors earned top honors at this year’sNew York State Science and Engineering Fair, held March 30 at theNew York Hall of Science.

Students fromRoslyn High Schoolwere among approximately 450 competitors from across the state, who participated in more than 20 STEM categories. The competition was judged in two rounds, beginning with a virtual phase that eliminated more than half of the projects, followed by an in-person round at the Hall of Science.

Yael Novak, competing in behavioral science, placed among the top 20 students overall for her independent research project conducted under the mentorship of Roslyn Coordinator of Research Allyson Weseley. Novak was also named an alternate for theInternational Science and Engineering Fair, scheduled to take place inPhoenixin May.

Olivia Jacobson, also mentored by Weseley, received an honorable mention for her research in political psychology.

Four additional Roslyn students conducted research in laboratory settings, with support and competition coaching from Weseley. Matthew Lin earned second place for his project in sustainable design, while Noa Karp, Hua Lin and Mingyao Xu each received honorable mentions for their work in the life sciences.

“It was a long but rewarding day,” Weseley said. “These students worked hard throughout the year, and it’s always great to see those efforts recognized.”
