If you’re familiar with the built-in GIF search feature, you’ll agree that it often appears within the text input field. You can access this offering through a sticker/smiley icon. Alternatively, you can access it through the “+” menu or a dedicated GIF button. Today, some Facebook Messenger users are unable to access GIFs on the iOS app because it disappeared.
Facebook users have taken to various platforms to express their frustrations about anew issue. According to reports, the built-in GIFs have disappeared from the Facebook Messenger iOS app.
Affected users said they wanted to send a GIF in the iOS app version but struggled to locate the GIF option. As spotted by PiunikaWeb, oneReddit usersaid:“Wanted to send a gif to my son on the iOS Messenger app, but the option is gone? First, they messed up the GIF search, and now GIFs are entirely gone. Does anyone know what’s going on??”This post generated a lot of replies, with many users also reporting the same issue.
Another userposted a screenshot of the error message with a tag: No GIF option in iOS. Instead of displaying the GIFs, the media panel only offered AI stickers. It also requested that the user visit the sticker store for more options.
So far, the issue in which built-in GIFs have disappeared from Facebook Messenger only affects the iOS app. This suggests that the issue may be from the Apple end.
But it’s worth knowing that this issue doesn’t affect all iOS users. As noted by PiunikaWeb, you’ll likely not experience this issue if you use an iPhone 16 that runs on the latest iOS 26.5 beta. Unfortunately, for the users experiencing this issue, updating the app may not address it.
Apple has yet to acknowledge this issue in which the built-in GIFs disappeared from Facebook Messenger on the iOS app. As such, it’s still unclear why the users are experiencing this glitch. We can only hope that the team will come up with updates to address this issue in the coming days.
