If you’ve ever played a video on X, you certainly know that the system only plays with one audio track and controllable playback. This is also the norm for other video streaming platforms. Recent reports show that X users are currently not getting this normal experience. Instead, they’re experiencing anX bug, which causes double audio on video.
This issue started a few days ago. According to theaffected users, tapping a video in the feed section shows a good display. The issue comes from the audio that plays with the video. Normally, as the video plays, an audio track with controllable playback should follow. However, users are getting two audio tracks (unsynced) that play simultaneously.
Furthermore, users mentioned that hitting the pause on the video player doesn’t stop the background audio track from playing. Moreover, muting the video only ends up silencing one of the audio tracks (the one that synced).
This issue, in which X doubles audio in video, is widespread as it affects different devices and operating systems. Some affected OS include:
Some users mentioned that they initially thought their phone speakers were broken. Since clicking brings out two separate circles, others assumed the video was playing twice. A Redditorsaid:“Wherever I click on a video it loads up two copies of it at the same time and their audio overlaps, making it so I have to pause it so only one audio is reproduced, so I can’t actually see the video.”
However, you need to understand that this issue doesn’t affect everyone. It didn’t affect any of theAndroid devices and Firefox browsersI personally used. Speaking of workarounds, some users mentioned that they tried some troubleshooting steps but none were effective. These steps include clearing the cache and using the browser’s desktop interface.
Unfortunately, X hasn’t acknowledged this server-side bug, which causes a video’s audio to double up. We’ll continue to keep an eye on the team for an update. Once we find one, we’ll keep you posted here.
