For the first time ever, CBSE will be conducting two board exams for class 10 students. While the first board exams were conducted between February 17 and March 10, and the results were released on April 15, the second board exams for class 10 will be conducted from May 15, 2026. As per data shared by CBSE, over 6 lakh students will be appearing for the first-ever second board exam.

According to the detailed data shared by CBSE, a total of 668,854 candidates will be appearing for 2nd board exams for class 10. Of these, 266,209 are female candidates and 402,643 are male candidates, and 2 in 'Other' category.

The subject-wise distribution shows that out of the total 6,68,854 regular candidates, the highest number (2,79,227 students) have opted to appear in two subjects, followed by 1,97,119 candidates appearing in three subjects, while 1,92,508 students have chosen to appear in just one subject.

Among female students, the majority (2,15,215) are appearing for improvement exams, followed by 31,548 in compartment and 19,446 in both categories. A similar trend is seen among male candidates, where 3,10,439 are improvement candidates, 53,736 are in compartment, and 38,468 fall under both categories. Overall, improvement candidates form the largest group (5,25,655), indicating that most students are attempting to enhance their scores rather than just clear failed subjects, while 85,285 students are appearing for compartment exams and 57,914 for both.

The subject in which most number of students will re-appear is Science which has been opted by 4,74,491 students. This is followed by Mathematics Standard with 3,68,843 students, Mathematics Basic with 1,78,878 students, Social Science with 1,54,619 students and English Lang & Lit. with 98,536 students.
