China has hit back at the United States after the White House accused Beijing of industrial-scale theft of artificial intelligence technology, saying that the American report is "groundless" and "slanders China’s achievements". The reaction from China has come after the White House alleged that Beijing stole US artificial intelligence labs’ intellectual property on an industrial scale. The latest allegation from the United States may further strain the already dented relations between the US and China over trade and amid ongoing conflict in the West Asia.
In a memo, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Michael Kratsios, said, "The US government has information indicating that foreign entities, principally based in China, are engaged in deliberate, industrial-scale campaigns to distill US frontier AI systems."
However, the Chinese foreign ministry challenged US' accusation and said that the report was "groundless" and slanders its "achievements."
Kratsios said that the process called distilling, the Chinese were copying AI technology developed by US companies. However, the White House did not mention any specific action that it intents to take against China.
Hitting back at the United States, a representative of China’s US Embassy in Washington said that Chinese AI technology was the result of its own dedication and effort as well as "international cooperation."
