A man stands accused of raping his three-year-old daughter and exploitingprisonvisits to sexually assault her. In a deeply disturbing case from Palma on theSpanishisland of Majorca, the defendant is facing an 18-year prison sentence for multiple alleged counts of sexual abuse and assault dating to 2018.

According to his indictment, the man, who allegedly has a background of domestic violence and sexual abuse, is said to have exploited his daughter's prison visits as opportunities to assault her. A separate allegation claims that, before his imprisonment, he raped her at his home in Palma. The First Section of the Provincial Court of Palma was scheduled to conduct thetrialthis week. In addition to the almost two-decade sentence, the man faces a request from The First Section of the Provincial Court of Palma to the sum of €30,000 (£26,000) in what was termed "moral damages".

Responding to questions from theprosecutorand the private prosecution's lawyer, the accused stated: "This accusation is very strange. I swear on my life that I never went near her."

The man further claimed in court that the allegations were revenge from the girl's family, claiming: "They never loved me or accepted me."

He continued: "I imagine it's because they're from Majorca and I'm not. They never liked me or accepted me."

In his defence, the man said he was a "normal father" who "loves his children". Further details emerged under questioning, with the individual maintaining that he never slept alone with his daughter, instead staying at her mother's home in Cala Rajada.

He stated that this was part of the visitation arrangement and also revealed that he had discovered he had been reported after arriving at the location where they met.
