The Peter & Jeri Dejana Foundation commemorated a $320,000 grant to the Viking Sports Foundation to support athletics and student opportunities at Whitney Field at Paul D. Schreiber High School on Tuesday, April 21.

The Viking Sports Foundation, a volunteer-run nonprofit serving more than 1,600 students in the Port Washington School District, will use the funding to replace an outdated scoreboard with a new digital video board. Organizers said the installation will be the first of its kind on the North Shore and the largest at a Long Island high school.

A portion of the grant will also fund scholarships for student-athletes pursuing higher education, expanding access to college opportunities.

“We would sincerely like to thank the Peter & Jeri Dejana Foundation for their donation to help fund our new state-of-the-art digital scoreboard on Whitney Field,” said Jacki Longaro, co-president of the Viking Sports Foundation. “This gift is more than an upgrade to our field — it’s an investment in our student-athletes and our entire community.”

School officials said the scoreboard will also enhance educational programming. The technology will be incorporated into sports broadcasting and advanced video podcasting courses, allowing students to produce live content, highlights and interviews during games.

“The scoreboard will instantly become part of the sports broadcasting curriculum,” said Nick Schratwieser, the district’s director of health, physical education and athletics. “Students will learn to manage live highlights and conduct interviews in front of large crowds, giving them a professional experience that few broadcasters receive until college.”

The donation marks a significant increase in support from the Dejana Foundation, which has contributed $150,000 to the Viking Sports Foundation over the past decade. The new grant is part of the foundation’s broader $26 million philanthropic commitment to regional organizations in 2026.

Foundation leaders said the project reflects a continued commitment to strengthening the Port Washington community through investments in education, athletics and local families.
