Union Home MinisterAmit Shahon Thursday exuded confidence of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) victory in the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, following the record voter turnout in the first phase as a clear signal of public sentiment.
Speaking exclusively with Times Now, during a road show at Madhyamgram in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, Shah asserted that the TMC is on its way out.
On the highest voter turnout in the first phase of polling in West Bengal, Amit Shah said that after decades, people in West Bengal were voting "free from fear."
"After 50 years, freed from the fear of the Communists and TMC goons, the people of Bengal voted. This reflects that moving beyond fear, the people of Bengal have put their trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Shah told Times Now.
Shah spoke to Times Now while leading a colourful road show at Madhyamgram. From atop a decorated vehicle, he waved at the people who stood on both sides of Jessore Road, as the participants marched on from Madhyamgram Chowmatha to Barasat Dak Bungalow More.
Many of the people held orange and saffron-coloured balloons and giant lotuses, the symbol of the BJP. Madhyamgram will go to polls on the second phase of the election on April 29.
Shah also shared an image of the crowd on his X handle, saying, "At the Madhyamgram roadshow, this saffron colour represents anger, protest, and retribution against atrocities committed against women in Bengal. The TMC is on its way out."
"The sun of the TMC's corruption and hooliganism has set," he said, while sharing a video of the setting sun.
Voting was held in 152 assembly seats in the first phase of polling on Thursday. West Bengal registered a record voter turnout of 92.72 per cent in the first phase of assembly polls amid sporadic incidents of violence.
In West Bengal, the BJP is eyeing to wrest power from Banerjee-led TMC, which seeks a fourth straight term in a state the saffron party has never governed.
