There were women wearing birthday hats swinging away at Paddles Up Pickleball at the Bellport Outlets Saturday morning.
On May 3, you won’t have to wear a celebratory hat, but you will feel good about who you’re helping, when Paddles Up Pickleball at the Bellport Outlets organizes a Pickleball Tournament that day from 4 to 8 p.m. Several skill divisions for everyone to enjoy will be offered and prizes will be supplied. This tournament is the Bellport Rotary’s second annual Pickleball Fundraiser, and net proceeds will support two campers with disabilities for a week at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck this summer. It’s a bargain at $130 per team.
Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck, established by the Rotary Club of the Moriches in 1947 (they started with a small camp in Yaphank in 1941), is located on a 37-acre site on the shores of Kaler’s Pond in Center Moriches, for children and adults with disabilities. Through donations and volunteer labor, they welcomed their first group of 26 children with polio in 1948. They now host about 500 campers a year, ages 6 to 50, with activities including boating, arts and crafts, music and other pursuits.
Paddles Up Pickleball is located at 10 Farber Drive, in Bellport (at the North Bellport Outlets).
