Mumbai:A fire broke out in the Survey Yard building at the Naval Dockyard in SouthMumbaion late Thursday evening. The fire occurred in the area opposite the Gateway of India in Colaba. Naval officers arrived at the scene immediately after receiving information as fire fighting authorities launched efforts to douse the flames. No injuries have been reported so far. As per preliminary information, the blaze erupted at the Survey Yard building located inside the Naval Dockyard at around 10.15 pm, they said.
An official said the spot where the fire erupted was situated diagonally opposite the Gateway of India in Colaba.
"Navy authorities rushed to the spot and initiated firefighting operations. There is no report of any injuries so far. Further details are awaited," the official said. Some persons in the vicinity have shared videos of the fire on social media.
Issuing a statement on the incident, the Navy said, "A fire broke out in one of the waste stockyards at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai late evening on 12 February. Fire was brought under control in swift action by Naval fire tenders. No casualty has been reported. The cause of the fire is being investigated."
