Nadia:Prime MinisterNarendra Modihit out at the ruling Mamata-Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal during his election rally in the state's Nadia district. Referring to his unscheduled stop at a roadside jhalmuri stall, PM Modi said, "Jhalmuri maine khayi, lekin jhal TMC ko lagi' (I have heard that even 'jhalmuri' has shaken some people. It was I who ate 'jhalmuri', but TMC felt the 'jhal')."
Notably, Jhalmuri, a popular Bengali snack, has become the talking point during the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections after the PM took a snack break at the stall. Taking a swipe at the TMC, the Prime Minister said that jhalmuri will be distributed on May 4 after the BJP's thumping victory in the West Bengal polls.
"We have observed in the past that wherever the country has witnessed a massive voter turnout, the BJP has achieved a resounding victory... On May 4th, the victory celebrations for the BJP will take place in Bengal as well. Sweets will be distributed, and 'Jhal Muri' will be handed out too," PM Modi said during the rally.
"Incidentally, I have heard that 'Jhal Muri' has already delivered a stunning shock to certain people... 'Jhal Muri maine khaayi lekin jhal TMC ko lagi hai'...," he added.
PM Modi also lauded the Election Commission during his rally for being able to conduct elections where the state witnessed little violence. "This is the first election of its kind in the last 50 years in which violence has been kept to an absolute minimum. Previously, it was common practice to hang someone every week and simply claim it was a suicide. In many respects, a regime of lawlessness and hooliganism prevailed. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Election Commission; they have once again restored the dignity of democracy on the soil of Bengal... I also commend the government employees here," he said.
Notably, on April 20, PM Modi stopped to buy a Rs 10 ‘jhalmuri’ during his West Bengal campaign. It soon turned into a political controversy as the TMC hit out at him, calling it a "drama".

“It’s all drama. How come a camera was present when the prime minister suddenly made an unscheduled stop during the campaign? The entire episode was scripted. He was seen carrying a Rs 10 note in his pocket. Is it believable?" Banerjee said, as quoted by The Times of India.
