Jeonbuk National University unveiled a comprehensive transformation model earlier this week driven by artificial intelligence (AI) spanning education, research, administration and employment support, as part of its “AI university transition” initiative.

The university hosted an “AI System Sharing Conference” at its International Convention Center to present its integrated AI ecosystem to officials and staff from universities across the country.

The initiative integrates academic affairs, administrative operations, research management and career support into a unified data platform, an approach that remains uncommon among Korean universities. Officials said the conference aimed to share implementation cases and explore expansion strategies with other institutions.

At the event, the university introduced several core systems, including a next-generation integrated information platform called the Jeonbuk National University Management Platform (JUMP), along with an upgraded learning management system, real-time translation services and an AI-based job platform. It also highlighted its JUIC (University-Industry-City) initiative, a broader collaboration linking the university with industry and local governments.

The JUMP system, developed with an investment of about 16.7 billion won ($12 million), increasing to roughly 20 billion won with future expansion, is one of the largest AI-based infrastructure projects among national universities. It consolidates previously fragmented academic and administrative systems and enables data-driven decision-making.

University officials said JUMP digitalizes the entire administrative workflow, with more than 4,000 interfaces, and introduces AI-powered rule engines to automate complex processes such as graduation requirement analysis. Students can also access a self-diagnosis tool to check graduation eligibility in real time. The system supports single log-in access to more than 20 campus services, along with paperless administration, cloud-based infrastructure and enhanced security.

In education, the university is deploying LMS 3.0 centered on an AI tutor system. The AI tutor uses retrieval-augmented generation technology to provide real-time answers based on course materials and learning data, while also generating and grading assignments and offering personalized feedback. The system is integrated with automatic subtitle generation and multilingual translation services to support international students.

For career development, the “AI JOB @ JBNU” platform analyzes students’ academic records, extracurricular activities and job readiness to provide visualized assessments. It also evaluates employment prospects at target companies and recommends similar roles and employers. Officials said the system offers tailored roadmaps based on comparative analysis of successful employment cases and individual competency gaps.

In research administration, the JUIC system digitalizes the entire lifecycle of research funding, from budget planning to execution and settlement. It includes AI-based anomaly detection to identify irregular spending patterns and provides role-based dashboards for researchers and administrators.
