In a heartwarming moment during the 130thBoston Marathon2026, two runners, Aaron Beggs and Robson de Oliveira, delivered one of the best acts of sportsmanship and helped an exhausted runner, Ajay Haridasse, cross the finish line. The Boston Marathon is one of the oldest and most prestigious competitions in the world. The race was nearing its conclusion when Haridasse, a 21-year-old first-time participant from Massachusetts, picked up cramps and was unable to walk.
After he fell for the fourth time, he was ready to give up, but Beggs, a 40-year-old from Northern Ireland and a member of the North Down Athletic Club, and de Oliveira, who hails from Brazil, turned back, lifted Haridasse and helped him cross the finish line. The act of sportsmanship by Aaron and Robson was lauded by the sporting world.
Oliveira shared that the decision to stop and help Ajay was spontaneous. "It was a split-second decision. When I entered the final stretch of the marathon, I was just a few meters away from achieving my personal best, but in the distance I saw [Haridasse] collapsing. I knew I wouldn't have the strength to help him on my own. In that moment, I thought, ‘God, if someone stops, I'll stop too and help him," he wrote.
After the race, all three runners received medical attention. Reportedly, Oliveira suffered extreme dehydration after assisting Haridasse. Despite the delay, all three managed to qualify for the 2027 Boston Marathon. North Down Athletic Club called Beggs as a superstar who couldn't pass an athlete in distress.
