President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating remained at a record high of 69 percent for the third consecutive time in a biweekly survey, the poll showed Thursday.
In a National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted from Monday to Wednesday, negative assessment of Lee inched down 1 percentage point to 21 percent from the previous survey conducted two weeks earlier.
Lee's approval rating first reached 69 percent in the fourth week of March, when it marked the highest level in NBS polls since his inauguration in June last year, and has stayed at that level for the following two surveys.
Support for the ruling Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) moved up 1 percentage point to 48 percent, while backing for the main opposition People Power Party dropped 3 percentage points to 15 percent, marking the lowest level under the current administration.
On the upcoming June 3 local elections, 58 percent of respondents said voters should support the DPK for stability, while 30 percent said they should back the opposition to keep the government in check.
The survey was conducted by pollsters Embrain Public, Kstat Research, Korea Research and Hankook Research on 1,005 people aged 18 and older.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
