Tehran:Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday listed out several reasons why negotiations with theUnited Statesfailed. Hitting out at the US, in his X post, Pezeshkian said that the world is seeing its "hypocritical rhetoric and contradiction between claims and actions."
The Iranian President also stated that Iran welcomed "dialogue and agreement" and would continue to do so. Pezeshkian blamed the naval blockade imposed by the US forces in the Strait of Hormuz as one of the main reasons for the failure of peace talks. He also accused Washington of breaching commitments.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has welcomed dialogue and agreement and continues to do so. Breach of commitments, blockade and threats are main obstacles to genuine negotiations. World sees your endless hypocritical rhetoric and contradiction between claims and actions," the Iranian President wrote in his X post.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump on Wednesday morning (local time) signalled that the second round of peace talks between Washington and Tehran could take place within the next 36 to 72 hours, reported the New York Post, citing a text message between the US President and sources in Pakistan.
Notably, US Vice President JD Vance was expected to travel to Pakistan on Wednesday. However, his visit was called off. The confirmation in this regard was given by a White House official. Similarly, Iran's delegation has also been delaying their arrival in Pakistan's Islamabad for the second round of peace talks with the US.

Notably, Trump on Monday extended the ceasefire with Iran for an indefinite period. The announcement had come a day before the 14-day ceasefire was set to expire on Wednesday. However, Trump also justified the naval blockade imposed by the US. He stated that the US Navy will keep enforcing the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump claimed that Iran is losing USD 500 million per day due to the blockade.
"Iran doesn’t want the Strait of Hormuz closed, they want it open so they can make $500 Million Dollars a day (which is, therefore, what they are losing if it is closed!)," Trump wrote in his Truth Social post.
