A majority of likely US voters say the news media has lost credibility, with many agreeing it now has “zero” credibility, according to anew Rasmussen Reports survey.

After an X user said, “At this point, legacy media has no credibility left,”Elon Muskreplied with one word: “Zero.” Fifty-six percent (56%) of voters say they agree with the statement that legacy media has “zero credibility left,” including 33% who say they strongly agree. Twenty-seven percent (27%) say they disagree, while 17% say they are not sure.

Voters also give mixed reviews on media performance. Thirty-four percent (34%) rate the national news media as good or excellent in terms of accuracy and fairness, while 43% say the media is doing a poor job.

Many voters say they believe media bias plays a role. Forty-two percent (42%) say most news organizations are biased in favor of Democrats, compared to 23% who say they are biased toward Republicans. Twenty-two percent (22%) say the media are mostly neutral, while 13% say they are not sure.

Views differ by political affiliation. Sixty-three percent (63%) of Republicans say the media are biased toward Democrats, a view shared by 25% of Democrats and 38% of voters not affiliated with either major party.

The survey of 1,090 likely US voters was conducted April 14–16, 2026. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
