Kathmandu:Just weeks after assuming power, theBalen Shah-led government in Nepal is facing public anger. Protests have reportedly erupted in Nepal against the ruling government in SIngha Durbar in Kathmandu. The protest, which began with a small gathering soon spiralled into a mass agitation against the government.

Protesters, including students, have hit the streets in Kathmandu and other cities of the nation. Customs duty on Indian good and corruption allegations on the Home Minister are among the major issues raised by protesters.

Protesters are opposing the Shah government's move to levy a customs duty on goods valued above Rs 100 brought in from India, reported India Today. The move is likely to adversely affect the daily income of people living in Nepal's border areas adjoining India. According to protesters, the Sah government's decision would put an unnecessary burden on the people.

Another major reason for the protest is the ruling government's alleged decision to sideline the student union, especially those affiliated with political parties. Thousands of students across Nepal reportedly joined the protest. College students holding placards also raised slogans against the government.

The pressure is mounting on Shah as the protests started gaining momentum in the Himalayan country.

The 35-year-old Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader is the youngest person to be democratically elected to the office in the Himalayan nation and also the first person from the Madhes region to hold the top executive post.
