A woman publicly confronted Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan during a BJP protest in Mumbai’s Worli area on Tuesday, after getting stuck in traffic caused by the rally. The incident took place when Mahajan was speaking to reporters at the protest. The rally was organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party to target opposition parties over the defeat of a Constitution amendment bill linked to women’s reservation.

An angry woman approached the minister and shouted at him for blocking the road. She asked why the rally was not held at an open ground instead of creating inconvenience for commuters.

“Get out of here. You are causing a traffic jam,” she said.

Even as Mahajan tried to calm her down, the woman returned and continued speaking angrily. She said many people were waiting due to the jam and questioned why the disruption was caused. When a police officer stepped in, she refused to talk further and told officials not to speak to her. The entire incident was recorded on video and soon went viral on social media.

Leaders from the Congress party used the video to criticise the BJP. Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal shared the clip and said the protest showed the BJP’s “real face”. He accused the party of misleading women and using the reservation issue for political gain. He also claimed that the opposition had already stopped what he called an attempt to change constitutional and electoral processes.

Former state Congress chief Nana Patole also shared the video, saying common people were being troubled because of the BJP’s “drama”.

Patole said the woman’s reaction reflected growing frustration among citizens. He added that women across the country would respond to such issues in the future.

The BJP has not yet responded publicly to the incident.
