Voters across several North Shore school districts will head to the polls Tuesday, May 19, to decide a series of Board of Education elections, with some races featuring unopposed incumbents while others include contested seats for school board positions.
Roslyn Board of Education President Meryl Waxman Ben-Levy and Trustee Leigh Minsky are running unopposed in the May 19 school board election.
Waxman Ben-Levy has served the Roslyn Board of Education since 2005 and has been board president since 2010. In her role, she works with district leadership, educators, families and fellow trustees to oversee district operations and advance Roslyn’s mission of “Excellence. Elevated.”
Professionally, she is an attorney who has worked as a litigator, mediator and arbitrator. She has emphasized public education, fiscal oversight and collaboration between schools and families throughout her tenure on the board.
As board president, Waxman Ben-Levy has led district initiatives focused on academic programming, operational planning and strengthening communication between schools and the community.
Minsky, first elected to the board in 2023, is an attorney and accountant. He works in private practice with a focus on legal and financial matters and holds degrees in both law and accounting.
He earned his Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law and a master’s degree in accounting from Hofstra’s Frank G. Zarb School of Business. He is admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey and is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.
The Roslyn Board of Education is responsible for setting district policy, adopting the school budget, evaluating the superintendent and overseeing academic and operational priorities for the district’s schools.
North Shore Board of Education President Andrea Macari and Trustee Brian Hanley are running unopposed in the May 19 school board election.
Andrea Macari, who was elected board president in 2023, is a lifelong district resident and graduate of North Shore schools.
