Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently serving a sentence in a corruption case at a jail in Rawalpindi, may have completely lost vision in his right eye, as per the reports. The report, published in Dawn, highlighted a “deteriorating ocular condition” and stressed an “immediate independent examination” to prevent "serious risk" to Khan’s health. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has set up a medical board to examine the former cricketer-turned-politician’s health.
According to a Dawn report, the Supreme Court (SC) has ordered that former Prime Minister Imran Khan be allowed to speak with his children. The court also directed that both the eye examination and the phone calls be completed before February 16 (Monday).
The instructions were issued as a two-member bench, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, resumed hearings concerning Imran’s conditions at Adiala Jail.
Imran had undergone a medical check up at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad on the night of January 24, a development that reportedly came to the family’s attention only days later.
Addressing the matter, CJP Afridi said,“The issue of Imran’s health is most important,”adding that“intervention was necessary.”He further emphasised,“We want to know the government’s stance on the matter of his (Imran’s) health.”Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan responded by affirming that it was the state’s duty to provide medical facilities, noting,“If the prisoner is not satisfied, then the state will take measures.”
What Does the Medical Report Say?
The medical findings state that as recently as October 2025, Imran Khan had normal 6/6 vision in both eyes. In the months that followed, he began experiencing continuous blurred and hazy vision and reportedly lodged multiple complaints with jail authorities.
According to the report, Khan later suffered a sudden and total loss of vision in his right eye. An ophthalmologist at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital identified a blood clot as the cause of significant damage. Despite receiving treatment, including an injection, only '15% vision' is said to remain in the affected eye.
The document also highlights concerns about prison conditions, particularly regarding sanitation and ventilation. It notes that the toilet area has no ceiling. Regarding airflow, the report mentions that the cell contains two openings measuring approximately 2x2 feet, positioned on opposite sides near the ceiling. However, although the toilet is located inside the cell, there is no exhaust system installed.
On the issue of family interaction, the medical report states that the prisoner expressed further disappointment that members of his immediate family and blood relations, including his sisters, have not been permitted to meet him.
