Almost a year ago, on April 22, Pakistan-supported terrorists killed 26 unarmed Indians in Pahalgam. Few attacks, considering the way it happened, has been as brazen. It led to Operation Sindoor, with the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force (IAF) hitting targets in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) and Pakistan, including Bhawalpur, the headquarters of the Jaishe Mohammed and Muridke, where the top Lashkare Toiba leaders are located. Nine places were successfully targeted in raids shortly after midnight on May 7 and what followed was four days of fighting till Pakistan asked for a ceasefire.

Today, the terror situation across the line of control and in Pakistan proper, remains dire, with top government sources speaking of 80-105 terrorists waiting to enter Indian territory. There is a high level of alertness amongst security forces in J&K, sources added. Reports said the terrorists are focussed on the Valley and also, areas like Poonch and Rajouri, south of the Pir Panjal range in Jammu and Kashmir. There are about 30-40 in terror training camps and launch pads facing the Valley and sources spoke of Dudhnial and Lipa.

There are an equal number or maybe a few more south of the Pir Panjal, and sources are speaking of terror encampments like Nalli and Nikial. In both cases, the terrorists aren't all right on the LOC; many are further behind in the camps. What the reports suggest is that the terror infrastructure remains and Pakistan continues to fund it.

Importantly, there are about 20-25 terrorists in areas across the international border, targeting Jammu and Kathua. This is of significance as the terrorists who were involved in the Pahalgam massacre may have entered India by crossing the international boundary and then gone northwards.
