A political controversy has erupted after independent MP Pappu Yadav made contentious remarks aboutwomenin public life. Speaking to reporters, thePurniaMP alleged that a vast majority of women are unable to enter or succeed in politics without making “compromises,” and claimed that exploitation by male politicians is widespread. He claimed that “90 per cent” of women’s political careers begin in “leaders’ rooms".

"Who is doing domestic violence? Who has their eyes on women? From America to India, it is politicians. Without the room of a politician, 90% women can not get into politics. Every day there is a CCTV footage of a neta.... it has become a policy to exploit women in India," he said.

Reacting to his statement, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala wrote on X, “Shocker statement! When nation was pushing for Nari Shakti see what Cong supported MP is saying!”

“Controversial statement by MP Pappu Yadav on women surfaces. He said that 90% of women cannot do politics without going into a leader's room. This is their mindset,” he added.

Speaking to Times Now, BJP leader Charu Pragya said, "Politicians seem to think they can get away with anything. He should be dismissed from both the party and Parliament."

His statement comes as the government's Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill to implement women's quota and increase the number of Lok Sabha seats to 816 was defeated in the Lower House.

Lashing out at Opposition's celebration after the bill failed to pass in Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "What happened in Parliament was not just desk thumping, but an attack on the dignity and self respect of women. A woman may forget many things, but she never forgets her insult."

"The conduct of the Congress and its allies in Parliament will remain in the minds of women across the country. Whenever people see these leaders in their constituencies, they will remember that these are the same individuals who celebrated stopping women’s reservation in Parliament. The women of the country are watching closely and understand their intent," he added.
