Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a tough start to the IPL 2026. They have won just two of their first six matches of the tournament, and languish in the 8th position of the points table. They have not had many star performers this season. However, the one shining spot for them was definitely young Ayush Mhatre who impressed with the bat, and has definitely been their most consistent and best batter in the squad. However, CSK's problems have been further compounded with Mhatre suffering a massive blow.
CSKhave confirmed that Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2026 due to a left hamstring injury. He sustained this injury while batting during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 18 (Saturday). They have also confirmed that he needs 6-12 weeks to recover from this injury setback.
"Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 due to a left hamstring injury sustained while batting during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. Ayush's injury will require a rehabilitation period of 6-12 weeks. We wish Ayush a speedy recovery," CSK confirmed in a post on X.
Mhatre is CSK's top scorer this season, with 201 runs from 6 games.
In the current squad, wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel is the most likely candidate to replace Ayush Mhatre in the playing XI.
"He's an exciting young talent, but it's going to give someone else an opportunity. So that's exciting as well," CSK batting coach Michael Hussey said. "We've got some really good players that haven't been able to get an opportunity. And so it's going to be exciting for one of those guys," he added.
