Cricket in Canada has now been the latest victim of a match-fixing scandal. The Anti-Corruption Unit of the International Cricket Council (ICC) is currently investigating a match in the T20 World Cup 2026 that happened between Canada and New Zealand on February 17 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Captain Dilpreet Bajwa was especially under scrutiny following an unusually expensive over that he bowled during the match. In fact, the ICC has even questioned him and searched is mobile phone for clues as well. It has now come to light that this scandal might have links to the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang.
According to a report by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which was responsible for the assasination of singer Sidhu Moosewala and the shooting at Salman Khan's house, is the mastermind behind the match-fixing scandal. In fact, they also played a major role behind the ascension of Dilpreet Bajwa as the captain of the Canadian team, just weeks before the start of the T20 World Cup. They even threatened a player in the team if he did not support Bajwa's appointment as captain.
"Last July (2025), around 25 cricketers, fresh off a win at a major provincial tournament, gathered at a restaurant in Surrey, British Columbia. Two players from the tournament approached a table where a star of Canada's national men's team was dining. They claimed to represent the Bishnoi gang and threatened the player, stating that if he did not support the promotion of Dilpreet Bajwa and another young player, he and his family would face dire consequences," a source close to the proceedings informed the publication.
In fact, the report further states that the Bishnoi gang had installed specific players and administrators in positions of power. In fact players and members of staff were continuously threatened.
"I opposed it, and within 40 minutes I received a message from the same number that terrified me because it contained a picture," a member of the team who identified himself as Noah told the publication.
Incidentally, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has been labelled as a terrorist organization by Canadian authorities.
The report also links Arvinder Khosa, the current president ofCricket Canada,to these events, saying that he too might have some big connections with the members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Khosa has denied these allegations, labelling them as baseless allegations to malign his image. He reportedly also held a call with former president Amjad Bajwa regarding the incident at the restaurant, which he denied having any knowledge of.
However, the report states that Khosa was part of the group that pushed Dilpreet Bajwa to become captain, even before he was made the president of the board.
"I personally feel they wanted to fix matches to make money. That is why they wanted him in power. What other reason could there be for them to go to such lengths to make him captain?", 'Noah' said.
It has been further alleged that former Canda coach Khurran Chohan was asked to fix parts of matches by then board president Amjad Bajwa, CEO Salman Khan, and board member Rana Imran.
