Gurugram Pitfall:A woman professor had a harrowing brush with death on Monday when her car fell into a deep pit dug in the middle of Galleria Road in Gurugram. The pit, which had reportedly been lying open and unguarded for several months, bore no warning signs - leaving drivers with no chance to react. The incident occurred as the professor was returning home from Sushant University, where she serves as Head of Department. As her vehicle approached the stretch on Galleria Road, it plunged straight into the pit with little warning.
Passersby who witnessed the accident rushed to help, eventually pulling the professor out of the damaged vehicle after strenuous efforts. She survived with her life, though her car was left badly damaged.
The professor is a resident of Ridgewood Estate, Sushant Lok-1, and had been travelling the same road she likely uses every day.

What makes the incident particularly alarming is not just the accident itself, but what preceded it. The pit had allegedly been dug and left open for several months without any safety measures in place - no barricades, no warning signs, no reflective markers. Nothing to alert drivers, especially at night, that there was a gaping hole in the road ahead.
It is the kind of negligence that could have cost a life - and very nearly did.
Shaken but resolute, the professor said she would not let the matter rest. She said she would consider filing formal complaints with the police, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), and the municipal corporation, holding them accountable for the dangerous condition of the road.
The incident has once again put the spotlight on Gurugram's chronic infrastructure failures - potholes, unfinished utility work, and open excavations that routinely endanger lives while authorities look the other way.
