A violent street assault in Mumbai’s Byculla area has led to the arrest of relatives of former India cricketer Yusuf Pathan, after they were accused of brutally assaulting a man over a minor dispute. Police, as per a report by NDTV, said the incident, which took place on the night of April 18 near Hirabai Compound in Mazgaon, escalated quickly and left multiple people injured. The accused include the cricketer’s father-in-law and brother-in-law, along with other relatives.
According to the FIR, the incident began when water splashed from the complainant Yusuf Asif Khan’s car onto one of the accused, Shoaib Pathan, due to a waterlogged road. Enraged by this, Shoaib allegedly began abusing him and smashed the car’s window using a bamboo stick.
When the complainant stepped out along with his family members, including his brother Salman and uncle Zaki Ahmed, the situation turned violent. The accused, including Shoaib Pathan, Shahbaz Pathan, Khalid Pathan and others, allegedly attacked them with bamboo sticks and a baseball bat.
The assault was captured on CCTV cameras installed nearby, which police are now using as key evidence in the case.
The victims sustained serious injuries in the attack. Salman suffered a fractured hand, while the complainant’s uncle received severe injuries to his head and arm. All injured were admitted to JJ Hospital for treatment.
Police said the accused also allegedly issued death threats before fleeing the spot. Based on the complaint, Byculla police registered an FIR under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 118(2), 115(2), 324, 352, 351(2) and 3(5).
