A fresh audio clip attributed to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) commander Abdul Rauf has surfaced just a day before the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack. The audio focuses on the terror organisation's women wing, the Jamaat-al-Mominaat, and goes on to detail efforts to expand its ideological footprint across Pakistan.
In the audio, Rauf claims, "From Karachi to Bahawalpur, from Bahawalpur to Peshawar, Jamaat-al-Mominaat is active across the country. On the orders of Masood Azhar, women are being invited towards four things - faith, prayers, jihad, and purdah." He further alleges that women are being "corrupted in the name of employment," while also urging them to stay away from television.
The messaging extends to the youth, with a call to discourage them from seeking jobs abroad. Officials say the wing is designed to push extremist ideology while expanding the group's recruitment base among women.
The timing of the audio is significant. It comes on the eve of the Pahalgam attack anniversary, an incident that marked a major escalation in tensions between India and Pakistan. The attack, carried out by Pakistan-based terrorists, targeted civilians and security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a swift security response and intensified counter-terror operations across the region.
In the aftermath, India launched Operation Sindoor, a coordinated crackdown aimed at dismantling terror networks linked to the attack. The operation involved targeted raids, intelligence-led interceptions, and heightened surveillance across infiltration routes. Several modules were busted, and multiple suspects with links to cross-border handlers were neutralised or arrested, officials said.
Security agencies believe the resurfacing of such propaganda material ahead of key dates is part of a broader attempt to revive networks and signal relevance. With the anniversary approaching, vigilance has been stepped up, even as authorities continue to track online and offline radicalisation efforts linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed.
