US President Donald Trump has claimed a "complete and total obliteration" of Iran's nuclear infrastructure, in a new social media post. Writing on Truth Social, Trump claimed, "Operation Midnight Hammer was a complete and total obliteration of the Nuclear Dust sites in Iran. Therefore, digging it out will be a long and difficult process." Hitting out at media organisations in the same post, he wrote, "Fake News CNN, and other corrupt Media Networks and Platforms, fail to give our great aviators the credit they deserve - Always trying to demean and belittle - LOSERS!!!"
Trump's post comes just a day before fragileceasefirebetween Iran and the US is set to expire on April 22.
Operation Midnight Hammer was launched in June 2025, which marked the US' direct military entry into the brief 12-day war between Israel and Iran. On June 22, US forces hit three key facilities - Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan - using bunker-buster bombs deployed by B-2 stealth bombers.
US and Israel launched a fresh round of attacks on Iran on February 28 this year, triggering a wider conflict that disrupted the Gulf and brought the Strait of Hormuz - a critical global oil route - to the centre of the crisis, with Iran blocking the route and the US imposing a counter-blockade of Iranian ports in return, thus choking oil supply to much of Asia, as well as strangulating Iranian economy.
After weeks of missile and drone exchanges, a two-week ceasefire was brokered through talks in Pakistan. As its deadline nears, there isincreasing uncertaintyover the next round of talks in Islamabad. The White House has again dispatched Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner and Vice President JD Vance for the second round. Tehran, however, has not confirmed its participation. As per an Axios report, the country's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has given the green signal for talks and a negotiating team is set to travel to Islamabad.
