Tehran:Uncertainty mounts over the second round ofpeace talksbetween the United States and Iran. Several contradictory reports surfaced about the participation of Iranian delegates in the peace talks to be held in Pakistan's Islamabad. A day after Iran's Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Iranian delegation would not hold any peace talks with the US, a fresh report surfaced claiming that the country's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has given a green signal to the negotiating team to travel to Islamabad.

Khamenei gave permission to the Iranian negotiating team to participate in the talks on Monday night (April 20), reported Axios. Meanwhile, the report, citing three sources, also claimed that US Vice President JD Vance is expected to depart for Islamabad by Tuesday morning for talks with Iran over a potential deal to end the war.US Iran News Live Updates:

Notably, the 14-day ceasefire between the two countries is ending on April 22. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump on Monday threatened Iran with launching a bombing campaign against it if the deadline to hold talks is missed. Notably, The US was waiting for a signal from Tehran that it would participate in the peace talks. The report also claimed that Iran was stalling the second round of peace talks due to pressure from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Meanwhile, US President JD Vance is expected to depart for Islamabad by Tuesday morning for talks with Iran.

What Iran's Foreign Ministry Said On Talks With The US:

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei on Monday had said that there would no talks with the US. He had stated that the country has no plans regarding a new round of talks with the US. The US is not learning its lessons from experiences, and this will never lead to good results, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson had added. "As of now, we have no plans for the next round of negotiations. We believe in deadlines or ultimatums to secure Iran’s national interests," he had said.
