Jeffery Sachs, the Columbia University professor, said in an interview Monday that when President Donald Trump tries to take credit for being the first president in “47 years” to square up against Tehran, he’s really showing that the war is not about nuclear weapons, but rather U.S. imperialism.
Sachs told Judge Andrew Napolitano’s Judging Freedomthat the U.S. established Iran as something akin to a colony in 1953 when it overthrew the government and forced Iranians to live under a U.S.-backed police state until 1979, when the Iranians had a revolution and broke free from the control.

“So Trump says he's just regaining the control from 47 years ago,” Sachs said. He continued, “In Trump’s mind, he’s solving a problem from 47 years ago…not any of the specific issues that are purportedly on the table.The only issue that's really on the table, from the U.S. point of view, is the idea that Iran had the nerve to break free from the American Empire. That's what's on the table. He had Iran under our control from 1953 to 1979, and then they had the audacity to break free. And Trump is going to fix that because he says that no president since 1979 has been ready to take that on.”

Sachs said, “It’s basically a matter of raw power. The United States refuses to let Iran have its independent existence, and Israel wants to overthrow the regime to build a so-called Greater Israel… a disaster for the Middle East and a disaster for the people of Israel, by the way.”
Trump said in an interview Monday that bombs will start exploding inside Iran if Tehran refuses to agree to the U.S. terms to permanently end the war – a threat rejected by Tehran, which said it will not be bullied into capitulation.
The temporary ceasefire is expected to expire on Tuesday evening in Washington.
Trump was asked by a reporter from PBS News about what you could expect if no deal is reached.
“Then lots of bombs start going off,” Trump said.
