US Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer has resigned, becoming the third cabinet official in President Donald Trump’s administration to step down in recent months, following DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi. Deputy Labor SecretaryKeith Soderlingwill take over as Acting Labor Secretary while the Senate confirms Chavez-DeRemer's replacement.
Her departure comes amid multiple ongoing investigations as of April 2026. The allegations involve reported misconduct in both her personal and professional life, including claims of an improper relationship with a security staffer, workplace behavior issues, and alleged misuse of travel funds.
Additional scrutiny has extended to her husband,Shawn DeRemer, who has been barred from the Department of Labor building following allegations of sexual assault.
The situation has also led to internal upheaval within the department, with several senior officials, including her chief of staff and deputy chief of staff, either resigning or being placed on leave as investigations continue.
White House Communication Director Steven Chueng confirmed the reports of Chavez-DeRemer's departure, first reported by NOTUS, and wrote on X:
"Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer will be leaving the Administration to take a position in the private sector. She has done a phenomenal job in her role by protecting American workers, enacting fair labor practices, and helping Americans gain additional skills to improve their lives.
Keith Sonderling will take on the role of Acting Secretary of Labor."
