Michael James Boyle died April 16, 2026, in Chesapeake, Virginia. He was 73 years old.
Born June 24, 1952, in Hempstead, he was the son of Charles Boyle and Evelyn Sabo (Bidwell). He spent his formative years in Hicksville and Island Park, and later relocated to the East End of Long Island, where he met his wife, Mary Angelina “Angie” Boyle.
A standout athlete from an early age, his primary passion was baseball, and during his teens he drew scouting interest from the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates. He later played on organized baseball teams across Queens and Nassau counties into his early 40s before turning his competitive focus to golf; fishing also remained a longtime interest.
He worked multiple jobs across Long Island and New York City before, in his 30s, launching ventures in the trucking, transportation, warehousing, staffing and logistics industries. Over the next 40 years, he also served as a mentor within his professional network, and his family said he found his greatest professional satisfaction in helping others succeed.
When the weather kept him indoors, he enjoyed James Bond, Star Trek and military series, with “Patton” a favorite, and his family said trips to the Emma S. Clark Memorial Library often ended with VHS tapes coming home and turning into weekend history lessons. He shared his interests with his sons through fishing trips to the North and South shores of Long Island and rounds of golf across Long Island and down the East Coast. A lifelong New York Yankees fan with a special admiration for Mickey Mantle, he celebrated the team’s World Series victories with his family at the turn of the century.
He was predeceased by his wife, his brothers, Martin, George, Jeffrey, Charles “Chickie” and Gregory; He is survived by his sons, Justin (Dominique “Niki” Boyle), Jeffrey (Jennifer), and Jason Boyle (Corinne); seven grandchildren; and his sister, Dale Clemente.
The family will receive visitors Thursday, April 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A religious service will be held at about 2:15 p.m. Burial will follow at Riverhead Cemetery.
