Novak Djokovic opened up on his friendship with Virat Kohli in an exclusive interaction with Times Now on the sidelines of the Laureus World Sports Awards, which are taking place on Monday (April 20) in Madrid. The Serb revealed it was the Indian cricket legend who inspired him to start watching cricket and revealed the duo have stayed in touch. Djokovic express desire to an event with Kohli when he visits India.

"Yes, Virat is a friend and someone I, of course, respect and admire. Excuse me. He's actually, to be honest, the reason why I started following cricket. I haven't followed it. So through him, I started following it more. And, you know, we keep in touch. And hopefully when I come, I don't want to say if, when I come to India, hopefully he can join and then we could do a little bit of tennis, a little bit of cricket and have fun and just spread, you know, positive, good vibes with people and celebrate sport," said Djokovic.

Djokovic also expressed admiration for his fans in India and promised to visit the country soon, as he has felt a calling to visit the country.

"My message is always love, respect, and appreciation for, first of all, all the support over the years that I personally have been receiving from all the Indian tennis fans and Indian sports fans around the world. There are so many that I've been meeting all this time. And my message would also be 'See you very soon in India because I need to go to India' I've been feeling a calling to come for the last couple of years. So I really hope that I'll be able to come to India and do an event, play a match, or whatever it is. I really wish for that because I feel very close to Indian people," Djokovic stated.

Meanwhile, Djokovic expressed hope he will play the 2028 Olympics for Serbia in Los Angeles, where he will be the defending champion in the men's singles.

"There's no greater honour than representing Serbia, my country, in the Olympics," said Djokovic.

Talking about his rivalry with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, the Serbian stated in no uncertain terms that the battles with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal remain the greatest for him.

"I think the rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz is also great, unique in its own way. But for me, let's say the big three, it always remains the greatest," Djokovic concluded.
