Two people lost their lives and several others got hurt Monday morning in a shooting at Leinbach Park in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.It happened around 9:52 a.m. near Jefferson Middle School on Robinhood Road. Cops say it all started as a regular fight between some folks in the park. Things escalated real quick, somebody pulled a gun, and just like that, shots started ringing out. Multiple people got hit.
When officers rolled up, they found several victims with gunshot wounds. Two of them didn’t make it — they either died right there in the park or on the way to the hospital. The rest were rushed to nearby hospitals. Police still haven’t said exactly how many people were injured.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has now taken over the case, working together with local police. Detectives are still trying to piece together exactly what happened, how many shooters were involved, and what turned that fight deadly.So far, no names of victims or suspects have been released. Authorities also haven’t said if this was a targeted shooting or just random violence.
Leinbach Park is usually a chill spot — families hang out, kids play sports, people have picnics and gatherings. A lot of folks in Winston-Salem are straight-up shocked and pissed that something this bad went down in such a normal, everyday place.
As of Monday afternoon, nobody’s been arrested. Police and the SBI are asking anyone who saw what happened or has any video from the park to contact them right away. You can give tips anonymously.This shooting is just the latest in a string of gun violence incidents hitting North Carolina lately. Community leaders haven’t spoken out yet, but a lot of people are expecting strong calls to do something about these kinds of shootings in public spots.
The investigation is still going on, and officials say they’ll share more information as they get it.
