Iranhas reopened its main Imam Khomeini and Mehrabad airports in capital Tehran on Monday, the country's aviation authority said, after closures caused by the weeks-long war with the United States and Israel. "Authorization for passenger flights at Imam Khomeini International Airport and Mehrabad Airport has been issued" from Monday, the Civil Aviation Organisation said in a statement, according to ISNA news agency. It added that passenger flights from 10 airports across Iran "will also be possible from Saturday."

The development comes as the US-Israel joint war against Iran is nearing to complete two months. It first broke out on February 28 when Israeli and American forces pounded Tehran with more than 30 bombs, eliminating Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, several of his aides and family members. Iran in retaliation has been targeting Gulf nations including UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar as they houses US bases, apart from hitting Israel. Tehran also blocked the strategic sea trade route - Strait of Hormuz - in order to further pressure the United States, disrupting global oil and gas trade.

As West Asia continues to remain on edge, Iran has refused to participate in the second round of peace talks, that are being proposed to take place in Pakistan's Islamabad once again. The negotiations, reportedly scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, remain in limbo after Tehran said that Washington’s "excessive demands, unrealistic expectations, constant shifts in stance, repeated contradictions, and the ongoing naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz" are the reasons why they don’t trust the United States anymore.
