The energy inside the Herricks High School gymnasium was electric as students and faculty gathered for the annual Battle of the Classes on April 1.
An afternoon defined by “Highlander” pride, the event served as a high-octane send-off for the student body heading into the spring recess. The competition saw students from all four grade levels face off in a series of spirited and high-energy challenges.
The gymnasium was transformed into a sea of school colors as participants competed in a diverse lineup of events ranging from beach volleyball and a basketball shoot-off to the more whimsical hungry hippos and wagon races. Students also tested their coordination and strength in traditional favorites like the three-legged race and a high-stakes tug-of-war.
The festivities culminated in the highly anticipated dance-off, where each class performed choreographed routines to the cheers of a packed audience. While the competition was fierce across all events, the Class of 2026 ultimately emerged as the day’s victors, securing the championship title. Battle of the Classes continues to be a hallmark of the school year, emphasizing teamwork and community over simple competition.
It proved to be the perfect way to send the student body off to spring break – with smiles, high-fives, copious amounts of confetti and an overwhelming sense of Herricks Pride.
