Washington DC:A USfighter jetbeing shot down over Iran triggered chaos inside the White House, with US President Donald Trump reportedly reacting angrily and pressing his aides for swift action to launch a mission to locate and search pilots, reported The Wall Street Journal. The US fighter jet crashed in Iran on Good Friday.

According to the report, after Trump was told that two airmen were missing after an F-15 was downed, he fumed at his aides and asked them to “go get them immediately." Notably, Trump's advisers even warned him about the risk involved in the rescue operation inside the Iranian territory.

As the US president's impatience and panic could hamper the sensitive military planning, he was kept out of the room where discussions were taking place among senior military officials.

The incident brought back Trump’s long-held fears of a repeat of the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis during the presidency of Jimmy Carter, an episode that he had often described as politically damaging. Trump has reportedly told aides that the failed rescue mission during Carter’s tenure had cost him the presidency.

The US fighter jet F-15E was reportedly shot down by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on April 3. At the time of the incident, there were two crew members onboard the aircraft.

The US troops immediately recovered one of the airmen on the same day. Meanwhile, the search operation went for 24 hours to locate the second crew members. He was rescued late on April 4.

The United States pulled off a daring rescue of two aviators whose fighter jet was shot down by Iran. The second airman was rescued from deep inside the enemy lines.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) attempted to mislead Iranian authorities before the crew member was located. It reportedly launched a deception effort that spread claims within the country that he had already been found.
