Delhi’s weather on Monday (April 20) may appear slightly pleasant with partial cloud cover, but do not expect much relief from the heat. Despite clouds in the sky, strong sunlight and rising humidity levels are likely to make the day uncomfortable for residents. According to the India Meteorological Department, there is no official warning as of now, but temperatures are already above normal, and the impact of heat will be clearly felt across the city.
This comes afterDelhi on Sundayrecorded a maximum temperature of 40.1 degrees Celsius, 3.3 degrees above the seasonal average, according to the IMD. The minimum temperature settled at 21.7 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degrees below the season's average, it said.
The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to hover around 42°C, while the minimum may stay near 22°C. Early mornings and late evenings could feel slightly better, but the afternoon hours will remain harsh due to intense sunlight. Humidity levels may reach up to 65 percent, which will increase discomfort and make it feel hotter than the actual temperature.
The weather department has indicated that skies will begin to clear on April 21. Following this, a steady rise in temperature is expected. Between April 22 and April 24, the maximum temperature could climb up to 41°C. This trend suggests that Delhi may soon move towards heatwave-like conditions, making it important for people to stay alert and prepared.
With temperatures rising steadily, taking precautions is essential to avoid heat-related illnesses. People are advised to drink plenty of water throughout the day and keep themselves hydrated. When stepping out, using umbrellas, caps, or scarves can help reduce direct exposure to sunlight. Wearing light-coloured and loose clothing is also recommended to stay cool.
It is best to avoid going outdoors between 12 pm and 4 pm, as this is when the heat is at its peak. Children, elderly individuals, and those with health conditions should take extra care during this period.
