Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings retained their top spot on theIPL 2026points table after picking up a massive 54-run win over Lucknow Super Giants in match 29 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League, which was being played in Mullanpur. On the other hand,Ajinkya Rahane's Kolkata Knight Riders registered their first win of the tournament after beating Rajasthan Royals by 4 wickets at the Eden Gardens. This win ended their 6-match winless streak this season and moved them to the 9th spot.
The only team that took a hit from KKR's win was Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians, who are now at the bottom of the points table with only one win in five matches. They are on a four-match losing streak. Their only win came against KKR itself in their tournament opener. However, after that, everything just went downhill for the five-time champions. LSG, KKR and MI are currently the bottom three in the standings.
As for the Punjab Kings, they are the first team to have 10 or more points (11 points) this season, and as the only unbeaten side in the tournament so far, their domination has been nothing but absolute and remarkable. After PBKS - RCB, RR and SRH are the other teams in the top four, respectively.
Currently, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals have 8 points each. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans all got 6 points each. The tournament is currently in its middle phase, and there will be a lot of jumping around in the points table. Each team would be hoping to put their best foot forward.
Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Rajasthan Royals by four wickets thanks to a 53 not out off 34 balls from Rinku Singh, who was dropped while he was batting on just eight runs. Kolkata's first IPL 2026 victory lifted them off the bottom of the standings and kept Rajasthan Royals from finishing first. The Rajasthan Royals' advance was previously stopped by Varun Chakaravarthy (3/14), Kartik Tyagi (3/22) and Sunil Narine (2/26) following the initial attack by the Royals' opening duo of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
After going 81/0 at one point in the game, the Royals lost momentum. The Rajasthan Royals reached 124/5 after losing three wickets for 99 runs. Opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 39 while Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hit 46 from 28 balls. The opening duo of Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal scored 63/0 in the powerplay after RR captain Riyan Parag won the toss and chose to bat first against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Later in the evening clash, Punjab Kings defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 54 runs, with the help of Priyansh Arya's 93 and Cooper Connolly's 87. PBKS scored 254/7, this IPL season's best total, surpassing RCB's 250/3 thanks to an incredibly entertaining second wicket partnership between Arya and Connolly, which added 182 runs in just 13.2 overs.
The two were quickly dismissed by LSG along with Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer, but by then the home team had established a fantastic launching pad for Marcus Stoinis (29) to profit upon. With some resistance from captain Rishabh Pant (43), opener Mitchell Marsh (40), and Aiden Markram (42), LSG was only able to manage 200 for 5 in 20 overs.
