Virat Kohli is on the cusp of history and he can etch his name in the record books when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in their next game on April 24. With 8908 runs, Kohli is the highest run-scorer inIPL. He is only 92 runs away from the elusive 9000-run mark in the T20 league. The only batter with 8000 IPL runs thus far, Kohli is now on the cusp of becoming the only batter with 9000 runs. His tally of 8908 runs includes 8 centuries and 65 half-centuries.

Kohli has an average of 39.76. He has batted with a strike rate of 133.43. Kohli has 299 sixes and 799 fours in IPL. Kohli kicked off his IPL career with RCB in 2008. Delhi Capitals (then known as Delhi Daredevils) had an option to pick Kohli but they decided against it.

Kohliinitially struggled in IPL and took a couple of seasons to establish himself in the T20 league. The right-handed batter joined RCB's leadership group in 2011. He breached the 500-run mark for the first time in 2011 and scored 557 runs.

Kohli was appointed RCB's full-time captain in 2013. He piled up 634 runs in that season. Kohli had his best-ever season in 2016 and scored 973 runs at an average of 81.08. His tally included 4 centuries.

There was no stopping him in the coming years and he scored 639 runs in 2023 and 741 runs in 2024. He scored 657 runs in IPL 2025 despite retiring from T20I cricket in 2024. Kohli has 247 runs in IPL 2026.

Rohit Sharma follows Kohli in the elite list and sits in the second spot. The Mumbai Indians (MI) batter has scored 7183 runs in 271 innings. Rohit started his IPL career with Deccan Chargers before he moved to MI. He captained MI to 5 IPL title wins.

Shikhar Dhawan finished his IPL career with 6769 and sits in the third position. David Warner scored 6565 runs and is fourth. Fifth-placed Suresh Raina finished his IPL career with 5528 runs.
