The Pakistan Government had earlier declared that the their national team will boycott the T20 World Cup 2026 match against India in protest against Bangladesh's ouster from the tournament. However, after eight days of drama, and discussions with the ICC, they decided to take a U-Turn on this decision, and the match will now be played on the pre-scheduled date of Februrary 15 (Sunday) at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. After the resolution of this matter, former England captain Michael Vaughan has put forth a suggestion of a Test series between India and Pakistan soon.
In a post on his X account, Michael Vaughan lauded the fact that the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 match is all st to take place. He also opined that India and Pakistan need to play a three-match Test Series. He even said that the United Kingdom (UK) could be a great venue itself.
“It’s great for the comp and cricket. We need them (India and Pakistan) to somehow play a Test series soon as well. The UK would be a great place to host a 3-match series," Vaughan wrote.
In the meeting in Lahore on February 9 (Monday) between ICC, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the PCB made certain demands to the ICC for them to take a U-Turn on their boycott decision. One of them was that they want a resumption in the bilateral cricket ties between India and Pakistan.
However, the ICC outrightly rejected this demand, saying that a bilateral series was not under their jurisdiction. It falls under the BCCI, who will act accordingly witht the Government on India.
This is just one of thethree demands that the ICC rejected in the meeting.
India last played a Test Series against Pakistan in 2007/08 in India, which the hosts won by a margin of 1-0. Since then they have not played any match in the longest format of the game.
In fact, the two arch-rivals last played a bilateral series in 2012/13. Since then India and Pakistan have only played each other in ICC or ACC tournaments.
