Iranian Armed Forces have declared they will shortly retaliate against U.S. attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz as Trump announced he had "blown a hole" in anIranian tanker and seized the vessel.

Local Iranian media reported on the prospect of retaliation, quoting the spokesman for the Central Headquarters of the Prophet of the Seal. "The aggressor United States, in violation of the ceasefire and through piracy, attacked one of Iran's commercial ships in the waters of the Sea of Oman by firing on it and disabling its navigation system by boarding it with a number of its terrorist marines," the spokesman said, according to Tasnim News Agency, a news outlet associated with theIslamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

"We warn that the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will soon respond and retaliate for this armed piracy by the U.S. military," the spokesperson added.

The warnings emerged moments after President Trump announced via social media on Sunday that the U.S. had seized an Iranian cargo vessel.

"Today, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship named TOUSKA, nearly 900 feet long and weighing almost as much as an aircraft carrier, tried to get past our Naval Blockade, and it did not go well for them. The U.S. Navy Guided Missile Destroyer USS SPRUANCE intercepted the TOUSKA in the Gulf of Oman, and gave them fair warning to stop," the president said in a Truth Social Post.

"The Iranian crew refused to listen, so our Navy ship stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engineroom. Right now, U.S. Marines have custody of the vessel. The TOUSKA is under U.S. Treasury Sanctions because of their prior history of illegal activity. We have full custody of the ship, and are seeing what's on board!" the president added.

On Saturday, the naval forces of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps announced they would shut the Strait of Hormuz, declaring the Trump administration's blockade a breach of the peace agreement.

The country's joint military command stated: "control of the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its previous state... under strict management and control of the armed forces."
