A massive explosion that sent a towering plume of smoke into the sky over Simi Valley on Friday left residents alarmed — but wasn’t an emergency, according toJohnny Knoxville.
The TV star revealed the blast was part of a stunt filmed for the upcoming movie “Jackass: Best and Last.”
Concern spread quickly after the blast was seen near Simi Dog Park, with some people fearing a possible plane crash.
A video posted by Instagram user@joeknowsventuracaptured the dramatic smoke cloud rising over nearby hills,KTLA5 reported.
Knoxville later addressed the incident on social media, reassuring the public.
“Apparently people thought a plane had crashed yesterday in Simi Valley,” Knoxville wrote. “Little did they know it was from a monstrous explosion @jemfxpopov created for us for the final day ever of ‘Jackass’ filming.
“We were standing near the explosion and couldn’t believe what we were seeing,” Knoxville added.
Officials say filming activity in the area is not unusual.
