Development chief Bernadette Linn calls exhibition a ‘sequel’ to last year’s Tang dynasty showcase, with 95 per cent of relics shown in city for first time
A major exhibition featuring more than 250 sets of Han dynasty relics – most of which have never been displayed in Hong Kong – is offering a rare look into one of the most influential periods of Chinese history.
The showcase, titled “The Majestic Han: A Golden Age of Vigour and Cultural Integration”, is running at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui until September 20. Admission is free.
The event is co-organised by the Development Bureau and the National Cultural Heritage Administration.
Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn Hon-ho said in her blog on Sunday that more than 95 per cent of mainland Chinese artefacts were being displayed in the city for the first time. She called on the public to view the exhibition as a “sequel” to last year’s Tang dynasty showcase.
“The Han and Tang dynasties were both golden eras in Chinese history, leaving behind a wealth of important historical legacies for the Chinese nation,” she wrote.
Linn added that last year’s exhibition on the Tang dynasty was well received, attracting some 127,000 visitors.
