A deadly explosion at a firecracker factory in Kattanapatti village in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu killed several people on Sunday. Initial reports suggest that over 10 people have died in the blast. Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his condolences and dispatched two senior ministers to the site to oversee rescue and relief operations. Teams were rushed to spot to search for survivors and assist affected families.

The explosion took place at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Kattanapatti village in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu. The district is known as one of India's largest firecracker manufacturing hubs.

Chief Minister Stalin expressed his condolences in an X post. He informed that he had contacted the District Collector officials and instructed them to coordinate all necessary relief and rescue work.

He further wrote, " My deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. I have requested the esteemed Ministers K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran and Thangam Thennarasu to rush to the scene immediately to expedite and monitor the rescue operations and to offer solace to the affected families. Upon learning of this, I have contacted the District Collector and instructed them to coordinate all necessary assistance."

Virudhunagar district has a long history of firecracker factory accidents. Such blasts repeatedly raise serious questions about safety standards, working conditions and regulatory oversight at firecracker manufacturing units across Tamil Nadu. This is a developing story.
