A woman was arrested on multiple drunken driving charges late Saturday night after Riverhead Town police said they stopped her vehicle on Old Country Road for a headlight violation and found two children inside the car.
Riverhead Police said officers conducted a traffic stop at about 10:48 p.m. April 18 in the area of 1521 Old Country Road for a non-illuminated headlamp. During the investigation, police said the driver was observed to have bloodshot eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath.
Police said two juveniles, ages 4 and 12, were in the vehicle. After officers conducted standardized field sobriety tests, the driver was determined to be intoxicated, police said.
Felisa Elias Chaj was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI with a child passenger under 16, a felony under Leandra’s Law, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or more, driving while intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
Police said Elias Chaj was processed and held for arraignment.
